Steel Door Maintenance

6 posts

A steel door is not maintenance-free; it is low-maintenance, and the difference shows up the moment a few minutes of work a year get skipped. The most common mistake is the wrong cleaner: lacquered and membrane surfaces go matt when wiped with alcohol-based or abrasive products, and they do not come back; a damp cloth and a neutral soap suit most surfaces. On white and pale doors the habit matters even more, because marks show sooner. On the mechanical side, a door that has become hard to close is not a fault but a sign that the hinges are due for adjustment; a latch rubbing on the strike plate is solved the same way, early. For fire doors, maintenance is an obligation rather than a preference: the closer, the intumescent seal and the panic bar are inspected on a schedule and the result recorded.
