Ray brings together a plain black surface covering most of the door face with a vertical walnut wood panel on the right edge. Four horizontal brushed silver strips cross both panels without interruption, giving the composition a technical rhythm reminiscent of rail lines.
The even spacing of the strips creates visual unity between the black and wood surfaces. The vertical bar handle is mounted on the walnut panel, so the hand meets wood at every opening, and the small peephole sits at the top of that panel.
The walnut panel along the right edge acts as a thin band of warmth beside the black, and since the handle sits on it your hand lands on wood rather than steel; as the leaf grows taller we add strips and recalculate the gaps so they stay even.
